William N. Southern is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Southern completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center program (1992-1995). In July 1995, Dr. Southern joined the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as a clinician educator and Hospitalist where he was actively involved in teaching medical students and residents. In July 2002, Dr. Southern joined the faculty at Einstein as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Teaching Hospitalist.
Since that time Dr. Southern has played many active teaching roles with Montefiore Internal Medicine Residents, Jacobi Internal Medicine Residents, and Einstein medical students. Dr. Southern has served as the Director of Hospitalist Services and the Associate Medical Director at Weiler. In June 2007, he received an MS in Clinical Research Methods and has published in the area of hospital medicine outcomes research. In January of 2009, he was appointed the Chief of the Section of Hospital Medicine at Einstein/Montefiore. Dr. Southern is presently an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Einstein and a Senior Fellow of Hospital Medicine in the Society of Hospital Medicine.
