William (Bill) M. Armstead, Ph.D, Research Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, University of Pennsylvania seeks consideration for reappointment as a member of the Board of Directors. He has been an active participant in SNACC for 18 years and currently serves as Chair of the Research Committee. Bill helped organize the inaugural Bill Young Award Competition and has helped update and reorganize the format for the Career Development Workshop. He is a proponent of bi-directional translational research which fosters development of a bench-bedside scientific partnership between basic and clinician scientists. As a member of the Board of Directors, he will continue to act as a basic science representative, serving as a bridge between clinicians and basic scientists. Bill is interested in the control of the cerebral circulation during physiologic and pathologic conditions such as traumatic brain injury and stroke using a basic science animal model. Continuously funded by NIH, Bill has over 210 published manuscripts, and has trained numerous Medical and Undergraduate Students, Clinical Fellows, and Residents. In service, he has served as Chair, AHA Brain 1 Study Section, and Chair, Experimental Methods and Models section of the International Stroke Conference Planning Committee, Executive Board Member for the Cardiovascular Division of ASPET, and member editorial board of the Heart and Circulatory section of the American Journal of Physiology. Election to the Board of Directors of SNACC will enable Bill to continue to effectively advocate for development of mutually beneficial collaborations between basic and clinical scientists.
