Dr. Nelson, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, is president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the professional organization that represents more than 9,000 oral and maxillofacial surgeons and 1,000 of their professional allied staff. Dr. Nelson was in a group practice in Green Bay for 26 years, the last 15 years as a founding partner of a 150 physician medical specialty group. He is currently an adjunct associate professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota. Prior to becoming president, Dr. Nelson served one-year terms as AAOMS’s president-elect and vice president, and four years as District IV Trustee on the AAOMS Board of Trustees where he represented the oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, the Veteran’s Administration, and the United States Public Health Service.
