Dr. William H Bestermann received his undergraduate education at Furman University and went on to the Wake Forest University Medical School for his medical degree. He is board-certified in internal medicine and did his medical residency at the United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia.
Dr. Bestermann has focused on cardiometabolic conditions for his entire career. He was active in the American Heart Association, serving on multiple state committees and becoming president of the South Carolina affiliate in 1993. For the last 15 years he has worked to develop optimal medical therapy protocols and systems. These are designed to aggressively manage cardiometabolic conditions to goal consistently in a coordinated integrated manner. He is currently a senior clinical advisor to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and medical director of the COSEHC Practice Transformation Network.
He also served as president of the Cardiovascular Centers of Excellence effort in the Consortium of Southeast Hypertension Control.
