Dr. Wei Zhao, MD, PhD, FAAAAI, FACAAI, is a Professor and Chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine, where he also serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Operations. He is board-certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology, and holds the distinguished designations of FAAAAI (Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology) and FACAAI (Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology), reflecting his leadership and expertise in pediatric allergy care.
Dr. Zhao has been a faculty member at VCU since 2003, where he has developed and led clinical and academic programs in pediatric allergy and immunologic disease. He earned his Medical Degree (MD) from Wenzhou Medical College in China and completed his residency training in Pediatrics at West Virginia University and Wenzhou Medical College. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.
Dr. Zhao’s clinical and research interests include chronic urticaria, mast cell biology, IgE and non-IgE mediated anaphylaxis, drug and food desensitization, and immunodeficiency disorders. Among his professional achievements, he has served as President of the Virginia Society of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology (2012–2014) and has been named a “Top Doc” by Richmond Magazine for multiple years, recognizing his excellence in pediatric allergy care.
