Dr Meissner is a clinical neurologist and basic neuroscientist with a specialization in movement disorders. He belongs to the local DBS team, is referring physician of the French National Reference Centre for MSA and is coordinator of the Bordeaux Competence Centre for Wilson’s disease. Dr Meissner is member of Dr Bezard’s research group at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders. He has authored or co-authored over 50 publications in the field of fundamental and clinical neurosciences. Most of his publications are dealing with the mechanisms of DBS in PD. He has also been interested in the pathophysiology of basal ganglia circuitry, with particular emphasis to the role of oscillatory activity in PD. His current research interests in fundamental neurosciences include the development of innovative DBS techniques. During the last three years, he has set up an important clinical research activity in the area of PD and atypical parkinsonism.
