Walter R. Peters, Jr., MD, MBA, FACS, FASCRS is Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and Co-Director of the Rectal Cancer Research and Treatment Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. Dr. Peters has extensive expertise and experience in the management of a variety of colon and rectal diseases. His interests include the surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, colon cancer, rectal cancer and anal cancer. His research interests have focused on the development of laparoscopic colorectal surgery and improving the quality and safety of surgical care.

Dr. Peters has been involved with several research projects that have resulted in numerous publications and presentations at national meetings. He is active on the national level in several professional organizations. After completing his training at Washington University in St. Louis, he practiced in Columbia, Missouri for over 27 years and taught at the University of Missouri. He joined the staff at Baylor University School of Medicine to become more involved in surgical training. Currently he is a clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine.
