Dr. W. Scott Melvin is an internationally recognized expert in general surgery, GI surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and new technology development. Dr. Melvin is the immediate past President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES), and a member of the American Surgical Association, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, serves as an officer of the Central Surgical Society and many others. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters. His reputation has resulted in hundreds of invitations for National and International lectures.

Dr. Melvin currently is the Chief of the Division of General Surgery and the Vice-chair for Clinical Operations at the Montefiore Medical Center and a Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine, where he was recruited from the Ohio State University Medical where he held many leadership appointments including Professor of Surgery with Tenure, Executive Vice Chairman of Surgery, Chief of the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, and Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery which he founded. This Center has been responsible for educational programs training hundreds of surgeons each year. The Center focuses on research and development with over fifteen years of continual funding totaling over eleven million dollars. He is known to his colleagues for being a great friend, a superb mentor, a decent skier, a less-than-decent golfer, and hopefully a good sense of humor.
