Volker Schmid

Dr. Volker J. Schmid is a Professor of Statistics with a focus on Bayesian Statistics for Spatial and Image Data. His research focus is on the development of efficient algorithms for high-dimensional Bayesian methods. These methods are used in medical imaging, microscopy images in biology, and traditional spatial statistics such as disease mapping.

Volker Schmid is head of the Bayesian Imaging and Spatial Statistics group at the Institute for Statistics at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich . He is involved in several initiatives connecting statistics and data science, including the Munich Center of Machine Learning.
