Volker Scheer MD, MRCGP, MECOSEP

Dr. Volker Scheer trained as a General Practitioner in the UK and as a Sports Physician at the Olympic Training Centre at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He is Assistant Medical Director at the Sports Medicine Department at the University of Paderborn, Germany and a Lecturer in Sports Medicine and Sports Physiology. He also works as a Sports Physician for the British Military. He worked as Medical Director for the Al Andalus Ultimate Trail (AAUT) and published several scientific papers examining the impact of ultramarathon running on the body. He looked after the gymnastics teams at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and was selected as part of the medical team for the Olympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. In his youth, he was a competitive sprinter at national level and now enjoys running at a more leisurely pace up to marathon distances.
