Puttlingen, December 8th, 2022. The head physician of internal medicine at the Knappschaftsklinikum Saar in Puttlingen, Vincent Zimmer, has now been awarded a professorship by Saarland University. He has been teaching gastroenterology as a private lecturer at the Medical Faculty of Saarland University in Homburg since 2015. Now it is becoming an adjunct professorship. Medical students can, among other things, attend his lecture “Pathophysiology of the small intestine”.
At the Knappschafsklinikum Saar, the focus of the newly appointed professor is also on gastroenterology, i.e. diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and biliary tract. Prof. Dr. Med. Vincent Zimmer heads the clinic for internal medicine with a focus on gastroenterology, hepatology, diabetology, and interventional endoscopy at the Püttlingen location. As a recognized expert in gastroscopy and colonoscopy, Zimmer spends a large part of his clinical work on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of precursors and early forms of stomach and colon cancer. Interventional endoscopy plays a key role here. This refers to minimally invasive, endoscopic tumor removal that replaces surgery, without an abdominal incision and without general anesthesia. That's why his specialist clinic is also an integral part of the Saar Colon Center in Püttlingen, which works with numerous doctors' practices in Saarland. Another focus is on the liver and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. Zimmer is also a specialist in endocrinology and diabetology, i.e. he specializes in diseases of the hormone-producing glands and sugar metabolism.
Prof. Dr. Before his position as chief physician at KKSaar, Zimmer worked at several clinics in Saarland, including as senior physician at the Saarland University Hospital in Homburg and as chief physician at the Marienhausklinik St. Josef Kohlhof in Neunkirchen.
Zimmer is a member of numerous national and international professional societies, including the German Society for Internal Medicine (DGIM), the European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), and the Working Group for Internal Oncology (AIO).
