Victor Hugo Hernandez, MD, MSc is the chief of the Joint and Adult Reconstruction division of the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital, he is a clinical Professor with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Originally from Colombia, Dr. Hernandez graduated from the Universidad del Norte, Colombia. He completed a research Fellow, internship, and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Puerto Rico, and completed his fellowship in Joint Replacement and Adult Reconstruction at the Rothman Institute. While in residency, he also completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Translational research at the University of Puerto Rico.
He has extensive training in hip and knee joint reconstruction, including anterior hip approach, muscle-sparing techniques, bilateral simultaneous knee replacement, and complex revision, as well as patella-femoral and uni-compartmental arthroplasty, robotics, wearable devices, and augmented reality. His research has focused on outcomes, technology, disparities, and cost-effectiveness analysis after joint reconstruction. He has won multiple awards and recognitions, due to his outstanding scientific contribution to the Orthopedic Association. Dr. Hernandez has devoted himself to advancing the field of orthopedic surgery and has contributed over 60 original, peer-reviewed scientific articles to medical literature and has authored book chapters in orthopedic surgical texts.
His research has been showcased in regional, national, and international orthopedic scientific meetings on over 300 occasions. Dr. Hernandez is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Chair of the International Committee of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and sits on the Board of Directors at the American Academy of Latinos Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Miami Orthopaedic Society.
