Professor Victor Chong is the Head of Department of Oxford Eye Hospital, a part of the Oxford University Hospitals. He graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School with the Neil Arnott Prize, ophthalmic trained in Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and retinal fellowship trained in the Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London under Professors Phil Luthert and Alan Bird, and in the Center of Macular Degeneration, University of Iowa, USA under Professors Greg Hageman and Ed Stone.

His team was the first to describe systemic complement activation in patients with age-related macular degeneration. He is currently the co-chair of the UK Medical Retina Group, co-chair of the UK Amsler Club, Deputy President of the FAN Club, member of the Scientific Committee and Research Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and EURETINA respectively.
