Vernee Belcher MD, FACP

Vernee Belcher MD, FACP is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University and a Hospitalist at Duke Regional Hospital. She earned her medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine and completed residency training at the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Belcher is dedicated to providing outstanding patient care and training the next generation of medical providers. She is a recipient of the Duke Regional Hospital Top Hospitalist of the Year Award based on achievement across multiple performance metrics. She serves on the Duke Regional Hospital CVA Taskforce, an interdisciplinary team whose work led Duke Regional Hospital to achieve Primary Stroke Center certification, and numerous awards including, the Gold Plus and Target Stroke Elite Honor Roll recognition in the Get with The Guidelines-Stroke program.

As a clinician-educator, she serves as a valued attending on the General Medicine Teaching Service, and Family Medicine Service, and preceptor to Duke PA and 4th year Medical students completing their Inpatient Internal Medicine rotation. In 2018, she received the Duke General Internal Medicine Excellence Award for Clinical Mentoring. She is the recipient of the 2020 Duke Regional Hospital Hospital Medicine Education Award.

Dr. Belcher is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine. She completed the AHA’s Next Generation Leader’s Fellowship Program. As an Age-Friendly Fellow, her capstone project focused on Duke Regional Hospital’s participation as an Age-Friendly Health System.
