Prof. Dr. Verena-Wilbeth Sailer was appointed W2 Professor of Translational Pathology at the University of Lübeck on 1 May 2019. Prof. Sailer, born in Bonn in 1978, studied human medicine at the Freie Universität Berlin. She did her practical year at the Charité University Hospital, Berlin, in Manchester and Omagh. She obtained her doctorate at the University of Greifswald in 2010 with a dissertation on “Inhibition of the epidermal growth factor receptor in chemically induced preneoplastic lesions and hepatocellular carcinoma of the rat”, which she completed at the University of Greifswald’s Institute of Pathology.
In 2013 certification as a pathologist, 2015–2017 Research Fellow at the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, at the Weill Cornell Medicine of Cornell University, New York, USA, and subsequently doctor at the Institute of Pathology, Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center. In 2018 she completed her post-doctorate with the thesis “From Precise Diagnosis to Precision Medicine – the Role of Pathology” at the University of Lübeck.
