Dr Konstantinos Vemmos is an Internist, with special interest in the prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease since 1989 (Stroke Medicine). He has served in the department of Clinical Therapeutics of the University of Athens at the hospital "Alexandra" from 1978 to 2012 as consultant and, later on, as a Director in the National Health System. During the years 1991-1992 he trained as a Clinical Stroke Research Fellow in the department of Neurology (Stroke Service) of New England Medical Center, TUFTS University. From 1992 to 2012 he was Director of Acute Stroke Unit in the department of Clinical Therapeutics of the University of Athens.

He is a fellow member of the European Stroke Organization, the World Stroke Organization and a founding member of the "Hellenic Cardiovascular Research Society". Dr Vemmos is the co-editor of the journal "HEART VESSELS & BRAIN" and co-organizer of the annual Conference "Heart, Vessels & Stroke". He is a founding member of the Institute for the study and education in Thrombosis and Antithrombotic therapy (IMETHA). He has published more than 120 scientific articles in international literature with more than 2,000 citations. He has participated in international conferences with more than 200 abstracts and has given the last years more than 250 lectures on stroke fields.
