Vassilios Lougaris is Working as an Associate Professor in the Pediatric Immunologist at ASST-Spedali Civilis di Brescia-University of Brescia, Lombardia, Italy. Dr. Lougaris’s main field of interest is immunology and molecular medicine. After a brief period of research in B cell development in rare forms of immunodeficiencies, he went on to spend more than two years in an acclaimed lab at the NIH in order to study the final differentiation of B cells in health and disease and the factors that regulate such events. For the last years, he has been combining clinical and laboratory appointments with very promising results under the supervision of Prof. Plebian. Dr. Lougaris has contributed to the identification of novel genetic defects resulting in Hyper-IgM syndrome(CD40 deficiency) and to the identification of a novel form of autosomal recessive agammaglobulinemia (Ig-beta deficiency). He is part of the European Consortium for Antibody deficiency syndromes since 2007; within this consortium, he has been studying both the clinical and genetic aspects of Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs), with a particular focus on Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID).
