Dr. Vasileios Kouranos is a consultant respiratory physician at Royal Brompton Hospital. He completed his training in respiratory medicine in 2013 at the largest university hospital in Athens, the General Hospital of Thoracic Diseases.
Dr. Kouranos also holds a master’s degree in Thoracic Oncology in 2011 after a publication about antibiotic prophylaxis of chemotherapy-induced neutropenic lung cancer patients.
Dr Kouranos received a research scholarship grant for his study on screening CMR patients with biopsy-proven sarcoidosis and in 2017 was awarded his PhD at the University of Athens after his work was published in a journal that affects existing practice in the field.
He joined Royal Brompton Hospital in 2016 as a clinical research fellow to Professor Athol Wells and shortly after he was offered the role of senior clinical fellow, and in parallel, acting consultant in the interstitial lung disease department.
Dr. Vasilis Kouranos undertook a fellowship in interstitial lung disease and sarcoidosis at Royal Brompton Hospital. He has sub-specialist expertise in sarcoidosis and predominantly cardiac sarcoidosis, which was the subject of his PhD thesis.
