Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato PhD

Dr. Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato, is PhD from MIT (1987). Double major in Material Science Engineering (Universidade Federal de São Carlos - Brasil - 1981) and Physics (Universidade de São Paulo - Brasil - 1981). He received the title of "Livre - Docente" by the University of São Paulo (1989) and Full Professor by the University of São Paulo (1993). He has his activities based on laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, including Bose-Einstein condensate and applications of optics in health science. Recently the laboratory under his guidance has demonstrated for the first time the occurrence of quantum turbulence in a trapped superfluid.

He is responsible for the implementation in Brazil of Photo-Dynamic-Therapy for the treatment of cancer as well as microbial control and HPV treatment. Maintain a strong relationship between basic research and collaboration with industry. Run a TV channel dedicated to the diffusion of science and a special program for the education of science with practice. He has published over 250 papers in international journals with more than 4000 citations. During his academic life, he has supervised more than 60 graduate students. He has been part of the editorial board of many journals and he is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Science, TWAS, and The Vatican Academy of Science. He is presently the coordinator of the University of Sao Paulo Agency for Innovation.
