V. R. Ravikumar MBBS, MD, MS

Dr.Ravikumar belongs to 1955 batch of MBBS in Madras Medical college, and received gold medals in Anatomy, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and gynecology. He pursued M.S. General surgery and M.Ch Paeditric surgery form Madras Medical College. After working as Assistant Professor in Surgery department, Thanjavur Medical college, Dr.Ravikumar laid the foundation of Department of Pediatric surgery in Coimbatore in 1975 and was a professor there till 1993. The Department is now a post graduate institute in super specialty and is the first of its kind in Coimbatore. He also started the department of Pediatric surgery in PSG hospital in 1993, to which presently he is attached as a Honorary Professor. He is recipient of Dr. R.K.Ghandhi gold medal and Dr. Sogani Gold medal from Indian association of pediatric surgeons. He was also awarded life time achievement award in Asian association of paediatric surgeons conference in Kualalumpur in 2010.
He has written and edited text book of pediatric surgery along with Dr.K.K.Varma and has also authored a chapter in Text book of Indian academy of pediatrics. He has been an editor and advisor to Indian journal of Pediatric surgery. He has given several orations in different Medical forums. Dr. Ravikumar has published and presented numerous scientific papers in various journals and forums. He is a visiting professor to various universities viz PGI Chandigarh, JIPMER, Dublin Ireland.AIIMS etc. Dr.Ravikumar is an examiner for Post graduate courses in Pediatric surgery and DNB MCh in different universities including overseas examinations. He was a Curriculum member of national board on Pediatric surgery.
