Dr. Unni Cecilie Nygaard, MSci, Ph.D. is a Section Director of Immunology and Scientist at The Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Her own research interests are currently focusing on exploiting the opportunities of high-dimensional single-cell analyses and systems immunology within the fields of vaccinology, infection control, immunotoxicology, and environmental medicine. She leading the mass cytometry (CyTOF) platform at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH/FHI).

She has more than 20 years of research experience in immunology and immunotoxicology, studying how compounds in air, food, and drinking water can impair immune responses to infectious agents and vaccines or promote the development of allergies and autoimmune diseases. Current activities are cellular mechanistic studies of vaccine responses and infection resistance for covid-19 and influenza, as well as studying cellular mechanisms and biomarkers of exposure and disease in relation to environmental exposures in several EU projects (including leading the immunomics WP in EXIMIOUS).
