Toni P. Miles MD, PhD

Toni Miles, MD, PhD, is a Fellow in the Gerontological Society of America. Her work is focused on the population health effects of the deaths of friends and family members. Her work is used by several advocacy groups including: Evermore, advocates for polices that improve bereavement care in the United States; Culture Change Network of Georgia, advocates for improved culture surrounding dying and deaths in post-acute care / nursing homes; and the Athens Area Grief Coalition, a group of concerned professionals in the area surrounding Athens-Clarke county.

Dr. Miles completed first ever state-wide survey of new bereavement in Georgia. Her team has also created and disseminated a Best Practices in Bereavement Care to all nursing homes, personal care homes, and assisted living sites in Georgia. She has more than 200 communications in public health, bereavement, and chronic diseases. Since coming to Georgia in 2011, she has mentored 15 PhD-DrPH students.
