Dr. Tommy Andersson MD, Ph.D., is qualified as a specialist in Neurological surgery and Neuroradiology, presently Professor of Neurointervention at AZ Groeninge, Kortrijk, Belgium, on sabbatical from Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, where he has been Head of Neurointervention since 2002. He is the Director for Education in Neuroendovascular treatment at Karolinska, Shared Director for the Section of Neurointervention and angiography at KERIC (Karolinska Experimental Research and Imaging Centre), Chairman of the ESMINT Examination committee as well as of the Swedish national quality registry EVAS (Endovascular therapy for Acute ischemic Stroke) and the former Chairman of the Swedish Society of Neuroradiology.
Prof Andersson received his medical training and certificates at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and was between 2000 and 2002 fellow in Vascular Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology at the departments of Neurosurgery and Medical Imaging, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto, Canada. He has been an invited speaker at international conferences more than 120 times in the last 10 years and has organized more than 30 courses in the management of acute stroke patients for European physicians. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has supervised a large number of Master- and PhD-students.
