Tomiki Sumiyoshi MD, PhD

Dr. Tomiki Sumiyoshi is Director of the Department of Preventive Intervention for Psychiatric Disorders at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP) in Japan and Director General of the Mood Disorder Center affiliated with NCNP Hospital. He obtained his MD and PhD at Kanazawa University, Japan, and was trained at the Department of Psychiatry, Case Western Reserve University, as a Research Associate from 1993 to 1995.

Dr. Sumiyoshi was appointed Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University, from 2000 to 2002. He is the founder of the augmentation pharmacotherapy to ameliorate the cognitive impairment of schizophrenia. His research fields include cognitive neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and neuromodulation, as represented by more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. As Former Chairman of the Psychoneurobiology Section of the World Psychiatric Association, Dr. Sumiyoshi is promoting worldwide collaborations among psychiatrists, researchers, and other specialists who work for patients.
