Dr. Scarabelli was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan, and Director of the Center for Heart and Vessel Preclinical Studies, a translational research laboratory based at St. John Hospital and Medical Center, a teaching hospital affiliated with Wayne State University.

Dr. Scarabelli received his MD degree from the University of Turin, Italy, where he did a fellowship in Clinical Pathology. Following his pathology fellowship, he joined the University of Brescia, Italy, where he completed another fellowship, this time in Cardiology. Upon completion of his clinical cardiology fellowship, he relocated to London, UK, where he conducted cardiovascular research and obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology from the University College London, London, UK. He then migrated to the USA, where he completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Afterward, he completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY, under the mentorship of Dr. Valentin Fuster.

Dr. Scarabelli’s research focuses on the prevention of cardiomyocyte cell death secondary to ischemia/reperfusion injury, and on the prevention/minimization of the myocardial damage in cancer patients exposed to radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.
