Dr. Castor earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City and fellowship in Geriatrics at Mount Sinai in New York City where she held the position of Chief Fellow.

Dr. Castor has been on faculty at Mount Sinai since completion of her fellowship. Medical Education has been an important part of Dr. Castor’s career. She has served as Site Director at the Jewish Home and Hospital for the Mount Sinai Geriatrics fellowship program and later as their Director of Medical Education. In the year 2000, Dr. Castor moved to Elmhurst Hospital, a primary teaching affiliate of Mount Sinai. At Elmhurst co-directed the Geriatrics Unit until 2007 when she helped develop their Palliative Care Program. Dr. Castor has been one of the key faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency program at Elmhurst, responsible for Geriatrics and Palliative Care education. Dr. Castor has also been directly involved in the education of St. George’s University students at NYC Health & Hospitals/ Elmhurst and Queens Hospitals since their program began in 2005. Since 2008 she has served as the Director of Medical Education for the program.

Dr. Castor is the Medical Director of the Palliative Care program at Elmhurst. Dr. Castor also serves as Co-Chair of the Palliative Care Council for NYC Health and Hospitals.

Dr. Castor’s most recent publication is a chapter she co-authored, “Pain Management in Geriatrics Patients” in the textbook “Pain Management and Palliative Care” published by Springer in 2015 which brings together her 2 passions Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Castor holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is Assistant Professor in Medicine, as well as Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is Adjunct Professor at her alma mater, St. George’s University.
