Tina J. Hieken, M.D., is a surgical oncologist with a passionate interest in advancing the care of people with melanoma, breast cancer, or at high risk for developing breast cancer. Her practice philosophy focuses on patient-centered care to provide the best possible oncologic outcomes while optimizing aesthetics and minimizing long-term side effects, taking into account individual needs and preferences.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Hieken leads research focused on melanoma and breast cancer treatment, and how the microbiome influences the immune system, cancer risk, and treatment response. Dr. Hieken serves as medical director of quality and accreditation for the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is actively engaged in national and international cancer-focused organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Programs of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the World Society of Surgical Oncology.
