Dr. Timothy Lawrence Switaj, MD, MBA, MHA, CMQ, FAAFP, is Vice President and Chief Population Health Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer for the Primary Care Service Line at WellSpan Health in York. A board-certified family medicine physician and healthcare executive, he leads system-wide strategies focused on population health management, value-based care, and the transformation of primary care delivery. His work centers on improving patient outcomes, advancing care coordination, and integrating data-driven approaches to healthcare quality and cost management across large health systems.
Dr. Switaj earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. He later completed advanced graduate education through the Army–Baylor Graduate Program in Health and Business Administration at Baylor University in Waco, earning both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Administration. He completed his internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and residency training at DeWitt Army Community Hospital.
Before joining the civilian healthcare sector, Dr. Switaj served in numerous clinical and executive leadership roles in the United States Army medical system. His assignments included serving as Command Surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Commander and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Army Health Clinic Katterbach in Ansbach, and Corps of Cadets Surgeon and Chief of Cadet Health at Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy in West Point. He later served as Deputy Commander for Clinical Services (Chief Medical Officer) at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill.
At WellSpan Health, Dr. Switaj oversees population health initiatives that include accountable care strategies, preventive care programs, chronic disease management, and primary care transformation. His leadership emphasizes collaboration across clinical disciplines, the use of analytics to guide care delivery, and the development of innovative care models designed to improve community health outcomes.
