Timothy R. Spencer, RN, APRN, BHSc, Dip.App.Sc., Int. Care Cert., VA-BC™ is a Critical Care and Vascular Access Specialist for 30+ years and is currently the Director for Global Vascular Access, LLC. His clinical background and qualifications are in Intensive & Critical Care Nursing, Vascular Ultrasound, and Advanced Clinical Nutrition. As the Clinical Nurse Consultant of the Central Venous Access and Parenteral Nutrition Service at the Liverpool Hospital, Australia, he established, developed, and led this team from 1996–2014 (21 years).
He has been influential in progressing the scope of advanced vascular access practices for clinicians globally, with contributions to clinical research and evidence generation, promotion of patient safety, and evidence-based practices. Fully trained in vascular ultrasound and advances the increasing role of ultrasound-guided vascular access procedures. Having pioneered the role of the advanced vascular access specialist in Australia, he is now involved in developing and teaching vascular access and related simulation and education programs, mentoring and assisting clinicians in various research projects, and providing academic mentoring. He has presented constantly, both nationally and internationally, and is regarded as a clinical expert in his field.
He was a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Medicine, where he is now studying for his Ph.D., looking at catheter-related thrombosis in cancer. The recipient of the 2019 Suzanne LaVere Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access, from the Association for Vascular Access, acknowledged his commitment to the specialty of Vascular Access.
