Timothy Maul, CCP, Ph.D., has been involved with clinical perfusion technology and cardiovascular research for the past 19 years. He has worked as an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenator (ECMO) specialist at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a Clinical Engineer with the UPMC VAD program, and Research Assistant Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Recently, he joined Nemours Children’s Hospital Cardiac Center in Orlando and serves as a Perfusionist and Senior Research Scientist.

His basic science training has focused on cell and molecular biology as it applied to creating a tissue-engineered blood vessel and medical device design and large animal testing for a ventricular assist device for pediatric applications. In the clinical realm, his research has focused on anticoagulation and clinical outcomes modeling. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and presented them at national and international meetings. He is active in clinical education, both locally and internationally through the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as an ECMO Simulation Specialist and Website Committee Chair. Dr. Maul is also currently an editor for the ASAIO Journal and Chair of the Pediatric Program for the 63rd Annual ASAIO Meeting.
