Dr. Bahr’s research is in neonatal hematology. He is mentored by Dr. Robert Christensen. His current projects are focused in three areas, discovering genetic causes of acute bilirubin encephalopathy and studying innovative tools for diagnosis and management of hyperbilirubinemia, evaluating the diagnostic utility of new red blood cell indices measured by automated heme analyzers in neonates, describing the Erythropoietin/Erythroferrone/Hepcidin axis in neonatal and preterm populations. He has a special interest in ferritin and its role in iron metabolism.
