Tim Leighton is Director of the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies at Action on Addiction whose vision is to 'free people from addiction and its effects'. Action on Addiction offers research, treatment, family support, education and training. Tim has been involved in a number of recent national initiatives including the NICE Psychosocial Guideline Development Group, the UK Drug Policy Commission Recovery Consensus Group.
His main interests in the Drug/Alcohol field are: Finding ways to minimise ideological and political splits which do not best serve those adversely affected by substance misuse;Researching and encouraging grassroots community action, including mutual-help groups and societies;Improving the training and professional education of drug and alcohol workers, particularly counsellors.
