Tim Dwyer was born and raised in Queensland, Australia. After graduating from medical school at the University of Queensland in 1998, Tim worked in the fields of orthopedics, surgery, intensive care, and emergency medicine in both Australia and England. Tim completed his orthopedic training in 2009, being awarded FRACS by the Australian Orthopedic Association and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr. Dwyer worked as a consultant orthopedic surgeon at the Gold Coast Hospital, before moving to Canada.
After moving to Canada, Dr. Dwyer undertook a year of sports medicine fellowship with Dr. Ogilvie-Harris and a six months shoulder surgery fellowship with Dr. Richard Holtby. During this time, Dr. Dwyer resat his orthopedic exams in Canada and was awarded his FRCSC in 2011 by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada. He began working as a clinical associate at Women’s College Hospital in 2012 and was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in 2014. Dr. Dwyer was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021.
In 2016, Tim was awarded a Ph.D. from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto 2016. He continues to be heavily involved in research in the fields of arthroscopy and sports medicine, as well as the training of orthopedic fellows and residents.
Dr. Dwyer is privileged to be appointed at Women’s College Hospital, and Mt Sinai Hospital, two of the finest hospitals in Canada. He performs arthroscopy and open surgery of the knee, hip, and shoulder. Dr. Dwyer strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for all patients. The majority of these outcomes are achieved by avoiding surgery, with a focus on accurate diagnosis and the use of physiotherapy, activity modification, exercise programs, healthy living, and injections such as corticosteroid and platelet-rich plasma. When surgery is necessary in order to restore a patient’s quality of life, Dr. Dwyer’s goal is to perform expert surgery, followed by focused rehabilitation and appropriate time periods for healing.
Dr. Dwyer has also been honored to provide orthopedic care to the Toronto Football Club in Major League Soccer since 2016. Tim lives with his partner Megan, and his two children Sebastian and Simone. He loves playing music and sport with his children and playing hockey twice a week.
