Tim Cunningham completed his doctorate of public health at Columbia University in New York while studying the stress moderating effects of narrative medicine practices among expatriate healthcare workers who treated Ebola patients during the 2013-2016 outbreak in West Africa. He also worked as a pediatric nurse in that outbreak with the organization, Partners in Health. At the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, he teaches pediatric clinical care, epidemiology and global health. He facilitates research on compassion, compassion fatigue and caregiver resilience. He is currently the P.I. on a triad of studies examining ways to measure compassion in traumatic settings and also examining the use and meaning of "The Pause after Death."
