Thomas Wiesner MD

Thomas Wiesner was received an MD degree from the Medical University of Graz, Austria, in 2005, and started Wiesner residency training under the supervision of Helmut Kerl and Lorenzo Cerroni at the Department of Dermatology in Graz. In 2010, Wiesner received a fellowship to train in translational research, cancer genomics, and dermatopathology with Boris Bastian and Klaus Busam at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and with Martin Mihm at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. During Wiesner's postdoctoral training, Wiesner discovered several genetic aberrations in melanocytic tumors such as BAP1 loss of kinase fusions in Spitz tumors. In 2016, Wiesner established Wiesner's own laboratory at the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria, to investigate the molecular underpinnings of skin cancer.
