Thomas Walter is a With a background in biomedical image analysis and in particular in mathematical morphology, my main scientific interest today is the field of Bioimage Informatics, which is the branch of bioinformatics that aims at answering biological questions by the computational analysis of image data.

After studies in electrical engineering in the Saarland University, Germany, I joined the Centre for Mathematical Morphology, Mines ParisTech, where I completed a PhD thesis in 2003 on computer aided diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy. I then joined the EMBL Heidelberg where I worked in Jan Ellenberg’s lab in the field of High Content Screening. In 2012, I accepted a position as scientist at the Centre for Computational Biology, which is part of a joint laboratory between Mines ParisTech and the Institut Curie, where I lead a small team on Bioimage Informatics.
