Thomas W. Samuelson, MD, is a founding partner of Minnesota Eye Consultants in Minneapolis, MN. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and disorders of the anterior segment, including cataract and refractive surgery. A clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota and past chairman of the medical staff at the Phillips Eye Institute in Minneapolis,

Dr Samuelson has played an active role in ophthalmology and in the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. He is co-director of the glaucoma service and is an instructor of ophthalmic pharmacology at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, as well as a consultant for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis; both institutions are major teaching hospitals for the University of Minnesota Residency Program.

He is the recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Achievement Award and he has been named to “America’s Top Doctors” each year since 2002. He is past-president of the International Society of Spaeth Fellows – Wills Eye Hospital’s Glaucoma Fellows Society, past-president of the Minneapolis and St. Paul Ophthalmology Societies, and past-chair of the Phillips Eye Institute’s Education Committee.

On the national level, Dr Samuelson oversees the glaucoma skills transfer courses for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). He also serves on the Basic Clinical Science Course Committee for the AAO. He has served on the executive committee of the American Glaucoma Society. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Eye Study Club and the International Intraocular Lens Implant Club.
