Thomas Pfeiffer MD

Dr. Thomas M. Pfeiffer, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pfeiffer specializes in pediatric hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplantation, with a clinical focus on advanced cellular therapies for children with high-risk cancers and inherited blood disorders. His expertise includes bone marrow transplantation techniques, graft engineering approaches such as T-cell depletion, and emerging immunotherapies including CAR-T cell therapy.

His research is centered on improving outcomes for pediatric patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. He investigates strategies to reduce complications such as post-transplant infections and relapse, while also exploring novel immune-based therapies, including natural killer (NK) cell–based approaches for leukemia treatment. He is also involved in translational efforts aimed at optimizing donor graft manipulation and enhancing immune reconstitution after transplant.

Dr. Pfeiffer completed his medical degree at the Medical University of Vienna, followed by pediatric residency and subspecialty fellowships in pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplantation. His clinical and academic work is focused on advancing curative therapies for children with life-threatening hematologic diseases.
