Thomas P. Burris BA, PhD

Thomas P. Burris, Ph.D. holds the positions of Alumni Endowed Professor and Vice President of Research at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He is also an adjunct professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Genetics at Washington University School of Medicine. Prior to joining the Center for Clinical Pharmacology Dr. Burris was the William Beaumont, M.D. Professor of Physiology and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at Saint Louis University of School of Medicine. He has also held Professor positions at The Scripps Research Institute and at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in the LSU system. He held drug discovery research positions at Johnson & Johnson and Eli Lilly & Company for a decade before returning to academia.
Dr. Burris is an expert in chemical biology and pharmacology of nuclear hormone receptors and has considerable experience developing drugs that target this class of drug target. He has expertise in targeting these receptors towards development of drugs to treat a range of human diseases including autoimmune diseases, cancer, metabolic/cardiovascular diseases, and behavioral disorder.
