Dr. Thomas Meyer was born in 1963. He studied humanities at the Universities of Bonn, Heidelberg, and the Free University of Berlin. In 1994 he received his doctorate in medicine from the Georg-August University in Göttingen. This was followed by further doctorates in philosophy/social sciences (Dr. phil.) in 1996 and 2004 in natural sciences with a focus on biochemistry (Dr. rer. nat.). Prof. Meyer received his habilitation in 1998 for the subject of experimental cardiology. He completed his residency in the department of cardiology and pneumology at the University Hospital in Göttingen and then worked as an adjunct professor. After moving to the University of Marburg, he set up an independent working group at the Biomedical Research Center, and in 2009 he was appointed to the Reinfried Pohl endowed professorship for the subject of molecular cardiology. In February of this year, he accepted the call for a W2 professorship in molecular psychocardiology in the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center in Göttingen. He is currently working as a Head at Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy - University Medicine Gottingen in Germany.
