Dr. Hudzik is a Scientific Leader at GlaxoSmithKline. He has been a private consultant, Associate Director of Preclinical Safety at AbbVie, and a neuroscientist and project director at AstraZeneca. His work over the last decade has focused on risk assessment and management for compounds with central nervous system activity, and has chaired cross-functional CNS Safety Panels at both AbbVie and GSK. At AstraZeneca, he led teams which identified and progressed 5 candidate drugs into clinical trials. His research interests have included psychopharmacology of neurologic and psychiatric diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, anorexia, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, pain (and co-morbidity with psychiatric disorders) and post-traumatic stress disorder.

He is a member of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, has a leadership role in the Cross-Company Abuse Liability Assessment Council, as has been active in the Behavioural Pharmacology Society, American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Safety Pharmacology, American College of Toxicology, and the Society for Neuroscience. He is an active participant in intercompany consortia on abuse liability assessment and in prediction of risk for treatment-emergent suicidal behaviour.

Dr Hudzik also serves on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited Substances List Expert Group, has reviewed Clinical and Pre-Clinical Federal Grant Applications for NINDS and NIDA. He edited and contributed to texts on the assessment of abuse liability of new chemical entities, and on the neurobiology of suicide. Dr. Hudzik received his M.S. and PhD in Biological Psychology from the University of New Orleans, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He has authored more than 70 manuscripts on efficacy and safety of novel, centrally-acting medications and drugs of abuse and has made numerous poster and invited speaker presentations.
