After studying medicine in Berlin and Munich, Thomas Frodl trained in psychiatry and psychotherapy at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. Moreover, he trained in neurophysiology and neuroimaging research including imaging genetics. After becoming a consultant in general psychiatry and completing the additional training for supervisor in behavioral therapy, He was called to a full professorship and chair at the department of psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, where he improved his research leading and clinical skills. After 4 years he went back to Germany to become chief physician of the Department for general psychiatry II at the University of Regensburg and then took on the chair and head position of the Department of Psychiatry in Magdeburg. Moreover, he acted as dean for teaching and studies at the University of Magdeburg before taking on the chair position of the Department of Psychiatry, psychosomatics, and Psychotherapy at RWTH University Aachen, his current position. The research focus is on neuroimaging and neurophysiology of psychiatric disorders.
