Thomas Cascino MD, MSc

Thomas Cascino, MD, MSc, is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist, health services researcher, and faculty member at the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center and Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. As an Assistant Professor of Medicine, he cares for patients in the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and the Section of Heart Failure, Transplantation, and Mechanical Support. He is passionate about healthcare delivery, health equity, and disparities in access to therapies for patients with pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. His current work is focused on the identification of barriers to accessing healthcare, understanding disparities in the use of advanced therapies such as heart transplant and left-ventricular assist devices in heart failure patients, identification of optimal timing of left-ventricular assist devices, impact of policy change on access to therapies, and optimizing the use of exercise rehabilitation through novel modes of delivery. His research is supported by a K23 Mentored Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health.
