Professor Thomas Berg completed his medical training at the University of Tubingen, Freiburg, and Berlin, Germany. He specialized in Internal Medicine in 2001 and became a lecturer in this subject in 2002. Since 1992, he has been actively involved in liver transplantation and chronic viral hepatitis therapy research and drug resistance at Charite University Clinic in Berlin. His research has included participation in national and international clinical trials and has lead to the publication of more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbook contributions.

In 2002, Prof. Berg took up the position as Associate Director and Professor of Medicine at the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology of Charite, Campus Virchow-Clinic, University Medicine in Berlin, where he was Head of the Liver Out-Patient Clinic and the Laboratory for Molecular Hepatitis and Viral Diagnostics. Since December 2009 he is Head of the Department of Hepatology at the University hospital in Leipzig as well as of the Liver- and Study-Center Checkpoint in Berlin.
