Dr. Tom Simpatico is an expert in healthcare delivery systems, the intersection of psychiatry and the law, and public policy relating to persons with serious mental illness. He is full time faculty at the University of Vermont where he is Research Professor and Director of the Institute for Integrative Behavioral Healthcare at the Center for Clinical & Translational Science and Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Public Psychiatry in the College of Medicine.

He trained at the University of Chicago, and then joined the Northwestern University Medical School faculty during which time he served for five years as the Metro Chicago Bureau Chief for the Illinois State Mental Health Authority. In that role, he created and directed a number of programs that have helped to integrate mental health and substance abuse services. He co-developed a jail linkage project with the Cook County jail in Chicago that was awarded the Gold Achievement Award for Innovative Programs by the American Psychiatric Association.
