Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Thomas Luger is a Senior Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, Germany. From 1990 to 2018 he was Director of the Department of Dermatology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, and from 1995 to 1999 Dean of the Medical Faculty. Prof. Luger studied medicine at the University of Vienna, Austria, and received his MD in 1975. He completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Dental Research in the Laboratory of Microbiology and Immunology in Bethesda (Maryland, USA) from 1980 to 1982. Prof. Luger then worked for eight years as an associate professor at the 2nd Department of Dermatology, University of Vienna, Austria. In 1984 he was appointed director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cell Biology and Immunobiology of the Skin in Vienna and since 1992 in Münster. From 2003 to 2011 he was a board member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. From 2007 to 2011, he was president of the German Dermatological Society. From 2015 to 2019, he was a member of the board of directors of the International League of Dermatological Societies. As of January 2018, he is president of the Foundation René Touraine. In April 2018, he was invited as a Visiting Expert at the National Skin Center in Singapore.
