Ms. Theresa Freeman-Wang has been a consultant gynecologist at the Whittington Health NHS Trust since 2002 where she was lead clinician for colposcopy and vulval disorders until 2014. Currently, the lead for the unit level gynecology oncology service Ms. Freeman-Wang has divided her time between the NHS and private practice since 2004. Ms. Theresa Freeman-Wang’s areas of experience include managing menstrual problems, pelvic pain, menopause and a range of vulval problems such as vulvodynia, candidiasis, lichen sclerosis, and lower genital tract (vulval, perianal and anal) premalignancy. She’s a member of the International Society for the Study of vulvovaginal disease (ISSVD) and the British Menopause Society (BMS). Clinical governance, teaching, and training are also important aspects of her overall practice.

Ms. Freeman-Wang’s interest in the patient experience led to achieving the BMA TP Gunton Research Award in 1998, whilst a research fellow at the Royal Free Hospital, for the project assessing the anxieties experienced by women with cervical premalignancy. Having been on the National Quality Assurance (QA) in colposcopy since 2006 and London Lead QA colposcopist since 2010, she was appointed QA Director for cervical screening for London in 2014. This was a two-year post whilst cervical screening governance moved from the NHS to Public Health England (PHE).

Since 2016 Ms. Theresa Freeman-Wang has been a member of the National Research Advisory and Professional Colposcopy Groups and involved in updating the colposcopy standards. She was part of the 2017-8 National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) review of adjunctive colposcopy technologies for assessing suspected cervical abnormalities.

Ms. Freeman-Wang is actively involved with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP). She has been an executive officer since 2012, as Treasurer then Secretary in 2015 and now President-Elect. Ms. Freeman-Wang is also Vice-Chair of the UK National Advisory Cervical Screening Committee.
