Theresa came to Gainesville in 1989 from Sarasota in order to attend the University of Florida, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (1991), a Master of Education (1992), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Foundations (2000). Dr. Beachy pursued a career in education from 1992-2000, working in rural and at-risk programs. She taught high school social studies in rural Hardee County, FL and was the principal at Camp E-KEL-ETU, a wilderness education program for at-risk boys located in the Ocala National Forest, from 1993-2000.

Currently, she is the Executive Director of Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, Inc. the certified domestic violence center serving Alachua, Bradford, and Union counties. She serves on the board for the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is involved in numerous local community projects that address family violence, homelessness, and social justice. Her passion is for social change work that creates advocacy for issues related to violence against women.
