Dr. Theofilos M. Kolettis was born in Athens, Greece on March 15, 1961. He graduated from the German School of Athens (Deutsche Schule Athen) in June 1978, after the matriculation examination (Abitur). After successful national examinations, he entered the Medical School, University of Athens, and received his Medical Degree in October 1984.

Dr. Kolettis trained in Cardiology at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Scotland, United Kingdom, from 1989 to 1991. During this time period, he continued his attachment to the University of Athens and developed collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. His research interests focused on the study of topographic alterations of the left ventricle that occur after acute myocardial infarction, leading to cardiac failure. Furthermore, Dr. Kolettis completed his clinical training at the Department of Cardiology, Athens General Hospital, Greece, and received the ‘Cardiology Specialist’ title in October 1991, after successful Board examinations. He was awarded a Doctorate Degree for his thesis entitled: ‘Effects of vasodilator treatment on left ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction’. From 1993 to 2000, Dr. Kolettis worked as an Attending Physician at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre, Athens, Greece, a tertiary Hospital with a strong academic orientation. In 2001, He was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Ioannina, Greece, and was elected full-professor in September 2012. He performed electrophysiological studies and ablation procedures in patients with supraventricular or ventricular tachycardias. He established a laboratory for experimental Cardiology, organized a research group, and instituted a number of experimental techniques for the assessment of left ventricular morphology and function, and for the assessment of electrophysiological parameters in the post-myocardial infarction setting.
