Dr. Ted Wymyslo has worked in the field of primary health care as a family physician, administrator and educator for over 30 years. Prior to becoming the director of the Ohio Department of Health in February of 2011, Dr. Wymyslo served as director of Family Medicine Dayton, a Patient-Centered Medical Home initiative. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Wymyslo completed the Family Practice Residency Program at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Upon graduation, he entered private practice and then served as medical director of the East Dayton Health Center in Dayton, Ohio. From 1986 to 2008, he served both as program director of the Miami Valley Hospital Family Practice Residency Program and medical director of the Miami Valley Hospital Berry Family Health Center. He is also an associate clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Dr. Wymyslo was the first recipient of the Miami Valley Academy of Family Physicians Family Physician of the Year Award in 2001. He received the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Philanthropist of the Year Award and Distinguished Service Award in 2002, the American Academy of Family Physicians Philanthropist of the Year Award in 2003, the AMA Foundation’s 2006 Pride in the Profession Award, and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Torchlight Leadership Achievement Award in 2009.
